EXCELLENT Based on 452 reviews Pompeylad2025-08-24Verified Twice this year. but there won't be a THIRD.! Not quite the standard I had expected. Our second visit this year although this one being below par..! Beautiful cosy pub in a fabulous setting with flowers everywhere. Staff welcoming. friendly and good fun. The small problem was the food, and this was what we came for. Three of the four chose the Beef/Ale pie and was perfectly tasty, however I feel these had been kept under heated lamps for far too long which resulted the crust being almost impenetrable. We all finished our meals. but I really cannot see a third visit is on the horizon. Poştaşul R2025-08-11Verified outstanding dining experience from start to finish everything was fresh, flavorful and perfectly cooked every dish felt made with care and attention the prices were fair for the quality and portions the staff were friendly, attentive and handled everything with professionalism the atmosphere was warm and inviting with comfortable seating and a great selection of drinks the place felt clean and well maintained the menu had plenty of delicious options and everything we tried was outstanding overall it was an excellent experience and i would gladly recommend it to anyone looking for a great meal Jane B2025-08-09Verified Lovely country pub Lovely old country pub in beautiful setting. We visited 4 times during our stay and had two great meals including Sunday lunch. Staff extremely friendly. Highly recommend. Russ B2025-07-09Verified Amazing Evening Wow! Wonderful place! Walked in welcome with a smile, great drinks selection and what a menu! Had pie of the day and my partner had chicken Kiev both were beautiful! Cannot recommend this place enough thoroughly brilliant! Really lovely relaxing atmosphere! Margaret R2025-06-21Verified Once too Often To start with the parking is always difficult - no car park. This is the second time I’ve had a poor lunch there. We were with a club so ww we’re asked to pre-book. We were seated, on the hottest day of the year, in a dark corner with difficult to access benches and tables - it was extremely hot.. Although we’d all pre-booked we waited 45 mins for our lunch. This was terrible - I chose a cheese and ham baguette as everything else had onion, garlic, prawns or seeds. The soup and the pie were as of ‘the day’ so couldn’t chose these as unknown. It came with just cheese and no pickle and was very dry. I was not asked if my meal was ok, the staff disappeared and couldn’t get out of my seat due to having to climb over and keep asking other people to move. The treacle tart for pudding was also dry and tough with watery custard. When I mentioned this at the till I was told nothing could be done because they did not have the authority, they said to phone. When I told one member of staff it was awful she made a big sigh said “are there you are then” and rushed off. No sorry or apology. Shall definitely not be returning. Miranda2025-05-26Verified Fantastic Great good Great friendly service Highly recommended Great location Super walks Pretty village Great garden Came with family everyone enjoyed Noah S2025-05-18Verified Amazing accessibility. Went for a Sunday roast whist visiting the area with some service users I support. We phoned ahead of time asking about accommodating food needs and they were brilliant. They helped us access the restaurant with our wheelchairs and we brought our own chicken to the food needs we needed but they prepared the mash and veg how we needed and also accommodated us to make the dessert to the needs that we needed. The extra care that gave us to make sure we had the accessible we needed was amazing. The atmosphere was great too and it was definitely great value for the cost. Would 100% recommended. Robert Cowen2025-05-06Verified Amazing Local Pub! This is a beautiful pub with an amazing choice of food and drink. The staff are attentive and friendly and the food was delicious with generous portion sizes and the price was more than reasonable. We sat outside in the sun and the garden area is lovely. Would definitely recommend and come back. Dave L2025-04-22Verified Delicious Sunday Lunch Delicious Sunday lunch. Large plates full of meat and vegetables. Food was piping hot. The lady who served us was brilliant and if we were more local we'd be going back regularly. The puddings weren't needed, but we had some regardless. Blueberry cheese cake, a fruit crumble with custard and a fabulous cheese board were all finished off. Note they do offer a smaller plate option for the Sunday roast which might be a sensible choice for some diners. Jan L2025-04-16Verified Friendly Village Pub Such an amazing dog friendly place. The bar staff are all welcoming whether you have 2 legs or 4. The layout is a traditional old fashioned pub full of quirky features. Great outside space too and the horse visitors can usually enjoy a snack outside. The coffee is good, beer and wine selections great. Without a doubt this is our favourite local drinking spot and that goes for the dog Jack and his friends too.
