The White Lion Soberton
S O B E R T O N
Traditional country pub in the beautiful Meon Valley, Hampshire

About Us

The White Lion is a traditional 17th-century pub with accommodation which has been recently converted from our former coach house and stables. We are located in the heart of Soberton village which is quintessentially English, an Area of Outstanding Beauty, and within the South Downs National Park.

This is the perfect place to stay, unwind and relax after a day walking, cycling or enjoying the many delights of Hampshire.

Our accommodation consists of two double rooms with king-size beds, and one family room/suite, each offering “luxury in the country”. All are well-appointed rooms, each offering a high standard of decoration with luxury fabrics and accessories. The rooms are all fully equipped with en-suite bathrooms, heating, flat-screen television, hairdryer, ironing facilities and a refreshment tray.

For breakfast, our guests are offered a choice of cereals, fresh fruit and yoghurt. This is then followed by a choice of either a Full English Breakfast or two lighter options including a vegetarian choice. If you still have room: finish with toast and preserves and an endless supply of tea and coffee.

We have a reputation for delicious locally sourced food and popular local real Ales from the Bowman Brewery in Wallops Wood. We offer a daily menu and a specials menu in both our restaurant or bar area. We allow dogs in the bar, but not in the restaurant.

This atmospheric old pub still retains its open fires and wood-burning stoves, wooden floors and a very warm welcome.
The White Lion at Soberton is an excellent base for a rural break with an abundance of walking on the doorstep. However, with the nearby links to the M27 and M3 it is also the perfect base to visit Portsmouth, and its harbour which is home to some famous ships, and the waterfront area which is dominated by the Spinnaker Tower. Southampton which is a major port and the closest city to the New Forest, or Winchester England`s ancient capital, all are within a 30 minute drive.

Thank you & see you all soon

Amazing accessibility. Went for a Sunday roast whist visiting the area with some service users I support. We phoned ahead of time asking about accommodating food needs and they were brilliant. They helped us access the restaurant with our wheelchairs and we brought our own chicken to the food needs we needed but they prepared the mash and veg how we needed and also accommodated us to make the dessert to the needs that we needed. The extra care that gave us to make sure we had the accessible we needed was amazing. The atmosphere was great too and it was definitely great value for the cost. Would 100% recommended.

Amazing Local Pub! This is a beautiful pub with an amazing choice of food and drink. The staff are attentive and friendly and the food was delicious with generous portion sizes and the price was more than reasonable. We sat outside in the sun and the garden area is lovely. Would definitely recommend and come back.

Delicious Sunday Lunch Delicious Sunday lunch. Large plates full of meat and vegetables. Food was piping hot. The lady who served us was brilliant and if we were more local we'd be going back regularly. The puddings weren't needed, but we had some regardless. Blueberry cheese cake, a fruit crumble with custard and a fabulous cheese board were all finished off. Note they do offer a smaller plate option for the Sunday roast which might be a sensible choice for some diners.

Friendly Village Pub Such an amazing dog friendly place. The bar staff are all welcoming whether you have 2 legs or 4. The layout is a traditional old fashioned pub full of quirky features. Great outside space too and the horse visitors can usually enjoy a snack outside. The coffee is good, beer and wine selections great. Without a doubt this is our favourite local drinking spot and that goes for the dog Jack and his friends too.
